Giving the Gift of Sight: The Lions Club’s Project Vision

In 1925, Helen Keller issued a powerful call to action, urging Lions to become the “Knights of the Blind.” Since then, Lions Clubs International has led the global mission of sight conservation. Among its many humanitarian initiatives, Project Vision stands as one of the most impactful, enduring, and dedicated causes.

What Is Project Vision?

Project Vision is a comprehensive initiative focused on preventing avoidable blindness, delivering quality eye care, and empowering individuals with visual impairments. With nearly 80% of visual impairment being preventable or treatable, Lions work tirelessly to connect underserved communities with essential eye-care services.

Key Activities & Impact

Project Vision takes a holistic approach to eye health through:

  • Free Eye Screening & Eye Camps: Regular vision check-ups in schools and communities to detect cataracts, glaucoma, and refractive errors.
  • Spectacle Distribution: Free spectacles for children and adults, instantly transforming daily life and productivity.
  • Cataract Surgeries: Safe, free or subsidized surgeries that restore sight, especially for the elderly and underprivileged.
  • Eye Banks & Awareness: Promoting eye donation and supporting corneal transplants through eye banks.
  • Lions KidSight: Early eye screening for children, starting as young as six months, to ensure timely intervention.

A Legacy of Compassion

Through initiatives such as SightFirst and Lions KidSight, Lions Clubs International has positively impacted over 544 million lives worldwide. Each pair of glasses provided and every sight-restoring surgery performed continues a proud legacy of service, empathy, and action.
